Ya Baha'u'l-Abaha -
O Thou the Glory of the Most Glorious In Islam God has 99 names and some Islamic traditions belief that there is a 100th name. Bahai's believe that the greatest name is Baha which means Glory or Splendour. Many words from this faith derive their significance from the root word Baha such as Baha'i (a follower of Baha'i), Baha'u'llah (Glory of God), Abdu'l-Baha (Servant of Glory) or Ya Baha'u'l-Abha (O Thou Glory of the Most Glorious) |
The ringstone symbol was created by Abdu'l-Baha who was Baha'u'llah's son and successor. The symbol is mostly found on rings, necklaces, book covers and paintings. There are two stars that in the symbol represent the Bab and Baha'u'llah. The lower line which represents humanity, the middle line represents the Manifestation of God and the world of revelation and the upper line represents the world of God. The vertical line represents a Holy spirit proceeding from God through manifestations to humanity. |
The word Baha'i is equivalent to the number nine and the number nine comes up in Baha'i teachings and history. The number nine is also significant to perfection and unity.
Shoghi Effendi mentioned that "Concerning the number nine: the Baha'is reverence this for two reasons, first because it is considered by those interested in numbers as the sign of perfection. The second consideration, which is the more important one, is that the numerical value of the word Baha." |
